Measuring Line & Needle

Play The Typometer online

Also known as Dice, Over/Under

Pick a number and “under” or “over”: ten random numbers fall, and the tighter your line, the more every hit pays.

How it plays

The Typometer is a threshold game like Dice for one to four players, played with chips that carry no cash value: before each of five coups, every colour secretly sets a direction — under or over —, a threshold between 1.00 and 99.00 and a stake per strike. Only once everyone has sealed their setting do the rails snap open, and ten exposure strikes race through the machine one after another; a tight line rarely hits but pays a multiple when it does. Settlement comes only after the tenth strike, in a single rounding with nothing lost along the way. After five coups, whoever has the most in front of them wins.

The story

The Typometer, comic panel 1 of 3
Set your line: you bet on the needle landing under or over your number.
The Typometer, comic panel 2 of 3
The needle swings ten times, each time to a random number from 0 to 99.99.
The Typometer, comic panel 3 of 3
Every swing on your side pays. The tighter the line, the higher the odds.

Goal and rules

Goal The Bulging Till

Have the most fortune in front of you after five coups!

What counts is fortune: chips minus credit. Whoever lands on zero chips gets 25 credit from the syndicate. Whoever sets nothing gets a coin flip from the house at the smallest stake — Under 50.00.

  1. The Measuring Line Choose Under or Over and a threshold between 1.00 and 99.00, plus the stake per strike — hidden, like a bet at the next table.
  2. The Rails At kickoff all four rails snap open. Ten exposure strikes race through one after another, each a value between 0.00 and 99.99.
  3. The Multiplier A tight measuring line hits rarely but pays high: Under 5.00 pays twenty times over, under 50.00 only double.
  4. The Reckoning After the tenth strike, the reckoning stands: chips minus credit. Whoever sets nothing gets an honest coin flip from the house.

Hidden until kickoff: During calibration, other colours only see who has already confirmed — not your direction, threshold or stake. Only once the rails snap open does every setting lie open.

Controls

A toggle for Under or Over, the knob on the rail for the threshold — the ×2, ×5 and ×10 buttons above it set it to those odds — and the stake per strike below it. "Confirm stake" releases the rails. With a keyboard: Tab, arrow keys on the slider, and Enter.

In the arena, the goal and the rules are always behind the question mark, even mid-round — and between rounds, so is the story.
