How it plays

Kettenreaktion is a tactical duel for two, and a free-for-all with dynamite for three or four: in turn, everyone places a stick on an empty field or one of their own. Once a field overflows, it throws its sticks into the neighbouring fields and paints them its own colour — which can set off further overflows right away. Two neutral fields — a steel safe and a pile of rubble — belong to no one: they move to a new spot each round and fill the fields around them faster. Once you have no dynamite left on the board, you're out.

The story

Chain Reaction, comic panel 1 of 3
Place sticks of dynamite on the squares of the blast grid.
Chain Reaction, comic panel 2 of 3
Once a square reaches critical mass, it explodes and captures its neighbours.
Chain Reaction, comic panel 3 of 3
Trigger massive chain reactions to sweep every rival charge off the board.

Goal and rules

Goal 0 dynamite = K.O.

Turn all rival dynamite your colour. Whoever has no dynamite left on the board is out!

Early-match protection: before every colour has moved twice, nobody's out.

  1. Tapping Tapping places a stick of dynamite on a free or your own square.
  2. Full A corner is full with one stick, an edge with two, and the centre with three; the number on the square shows it, e.g. 2/2. Then the fuses start burning.
  3. Boom It pops in a corner at 2 sticks, on an edge at 3, and in the centre at 4: the square throws one stick into every neighbouring square.
  4. Colour Hit squares switch colour, no matter who owned them.

Steel vault: Two squares are blocked off each game, and different ones each time. Dynamite doesn't fit there — the squares next to them pop one stick earlier as a result.

In the arena, the goal and the rules are always behind the question mark, even mid-round — and between rounds, so is the story.
